John Roe, Sr. John Roe, Sr.Chairman 516-358-3510 / jroesr@cuagency.com John E. Roe, Sr. is a former president of City Underwriting Agency, Inc. (CUA, Lake Success, NY), a leading provider of comprehensive insurance products and services. The second generation to take over the helms of this successful family business, Mr. Roe can be credited with establishing sound policies and high standards of customer service which remain the hallmark of CUA to this day. Mr. Roe received his secondary education at LaSalle Military Academy (Oakdale, NY). He then went on to attend and graduate from the Manhattan College with a Civil Engineering degree. Following his higher education, he practiced as a Consulting Engineer with the firm of Prager Kavanough. From 1957-1960 he entered active duty as an officer with the U.S. Navy. Between 1960 and 1986, he was a U.S. Navy Reservist, eventually retiring in 1986 as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve and a Rear Admiral with the New York State Naval Militia. In 1960, he joined CUA, working in its various departments and virtually learning the insurance industry from the ground up. In 1967, upon the death of his father and CUA founder, James Roe, he succeeded him as President and majority shareholder. During his tenure as President of CUA, the Agency established itself as a leading regional insurance broker, diversifying into the healthcare and transportation fields. The Agency also gained an outstanding reputation with major carriers, who realized the high level of professionalism and quality of service CUA brought to all of its endeavors. Today, Mr. Roe's mark of professionalism remains evident at CUA. Similarly, his humanity and compassion for his fellow man looms large. A former Chairman of Flushing Hospital, Mr. Roe currently serves as a Member of its Board. He has also been a Director of the Board of Flushing Savings Bank (NASDAQ, FFIC) since 1968 and is also currently a Director of the Queens County Chamber of Commerce.
